L’ordenació urbana de l’àmbit dit IVECO/RENFE a Mataró s’ha resolt mitjançant un conjunt articulat d’associacions mínimes d’edificis que es composen d’edificis lineals i torres d’habitatges intercalades successivament amb bandes d’espai públic, equipaments o vialitat. Tot plegat, afavoreix l’obertura espaial-urbana en el sentit mar-muntanya, amb l’objectiiu raonable de multiplicar les transicions físiques i visuals de la ciutat vers el mar.

A new residential fabric surrounding the Colonia Güell housing development.
The project of residential growth at the city’s fringes demands, first and foremost, attention to the question of scale. Scale is the relationship between the object and it’s larger frame of unavoidable reference. In a word, it made sense for us to take the precise measure of the constitutive elements of the residential fabric being introduced around the Colonia Güell and, more generally, to understand the relation between this set of measurements and the dimensions of the other diverse fabrics and elements making up the system it was going to fit into. That’s why we opted for comfortable, fine-grained urban housing.
The project’s seeming complexity can be reduced to a handful of basic components and a geometrically hierarchical and entirely apprehensible system of local roads: five east-west streets running straight and parallel to one another bordered by the territorial road (Vía de Cornisa) and the continuation of a preexisting road that protrudes into the new neighborhood and gives continuity to its uppermost sector. This implicitly forms six urban sub-units which together organize the 1,273,000 square feet of rooftops and two basic building types. The houses have a number of variations: the first kind being 36 feet deep and ranging between four and five stories placed at either end of the abovementioned five streets (one variation in the distribution framework allows both strips to be oriented toward the South. Another type of house, three stories plus an attic, is arranged into two shallow rows with façades facing East-West according to an subsystem of parallel strips that vary in length.
Planning Mataró’s Iveco-Renfe Area
The planning of Mataró’s IVECO/RENFE area has come about through a group of loosely associated buildings consisting of linear blocks and apartment towers progressively woven into strips of public spaces, facilities and roadways. The group fosters the opening up of urban space in the direction of both the sea and mountains with the reasonable objective of increasing the physical and visual transitions from city to sea.
The area’s triangular shape rendered the use of conventional grid solutions to solve problems of circulation difficult at best. The structure of built strips alternating with systems is thus a consequence of the inescapable presence of the sea and the unusual shape of the area
Taking as given the criteria of complexity, compactness, and convenience of building on a not-too-large scale, the bulk is distributed across eight units, each of which constitutes its own ruban entity in dialogue with the others.

Urban Project in Parets del Vallés.
At the end of the day this is a public-private partnership that integrates into a single urban project, three complementary objectives shared by the city and its architecture: a municipal park that converts an old ravine into a plaza-garden for public uses, the opening of a street and the completion and suturing in of a fabric of twelve new houses.

Aquesta promoció pública-privada a Parets del Vallès integra en un projecte urbà unitari, tres objectius complementaris alhora de ciutat i arquitectura:
-L'extensió del Parc Municipal que desborda els límits inicials i transforma el vell barranc en una plaça-jardí d'ús públic.
-L'obertura del carrer Sant Joan Bosco
-Un doble edifici de 12 habitatges que acompanya el nou carrer i sutura el nucli antic amb el barri de la Linera
La concepció unitària dels tres components resol un vell problema de paisatge urbà i articulació entre dues parts de Parets del Vallès que fins ara es donaven l'esquena, i explica la seva asignació com a projecte de ciutat i paisatge.
